Tres Estrellas Design

Tres Estrellas Design is where Taos’ past meets the present. The three stars in the name, Tres Estrellas, celebrate the three cultures that colorfully define northern New Mexico; Native American, Hispanic New Mexican, and Frontier American. The gallery is a time capsule of 19th century Southwestern Americana, showcasing contemporary and antique material culture from each tradition. Tres Estrellas Design offers important Navajo and hispanic textiles, contemporary and historical weaving, silver jewelry, frontier americana, and locally built New Mexican furniture. Tres Estrellas originated in 2008, weaving contemporary Rio Grande blankets that embody the handmade character and beauty of antique textiles. Christopher Ferguson with partner Carla Bogdanoff, the couple’s collective experience in art, architecture, design, anthropology and historic preservation ensure the expertise necessary to perpetuate the time honored craftsman traditions of the Rio Grande Valley. Handwoven textiles and Spanish Colonial New Mexican furnishings remain the core offerings around which the gallery has expanded to include Native American and Frontier Americana objets d'art. Woven in-house by weaver Carla Bogdanoff, T.E.D’s Rio Grande Blankets and Jerga twill are hand-dyed with vegetal dyestuffs and use locally sourced Navajo-Churro wool. In addition to our contemporary weaving, visitors can expect to see a selection of antique hispanic and navajo textiles including classic Saltillo serapes, 19th century Navajo blanketry, vintage saddle blankets, Navajo and Pueblo woven sashes.
